The party's presidential primaries, was initially scheduled to hold on May 29 to 30 but was moved to the new date after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), extended the deadline for party primaries.

The decision by INEC to extend party primaries date by six days, came after much pressure from political parties in the nation for an extension.

Prior to the announcement of the six days extension by INEC's spokesperson Festus Okoye on Friday, parties had initially asked for 37 to 60 days extension of the timetable for primaries but INEC did not accept their plea, stating that such an extension will disrupt other scheduled activities.
